The Strength of Your Roots Will Determine the Quality of Your Fruits (Get Clear On Your M.V.P.)

It’s said if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.

How do we combat this?

How do we become more decisive? More confident? More courageous? More intentional with our time?

There are many approaches here, but we are still talking from a foundational place, like our work through forgiveness, gratitude, and morning kickstarts – these are some of the roots to help deliver long-term success that yields delicious fruits. Here’s another part of the foundation:

Take a moment to think about your MVP – Mission, Vision, and Principles

Have you ever done that?

Some have, and many have not.

Every day we are faced with many decisions, many requests of our time, our money, and our energy.  It is impossible to say yes to it all. Those who try, often experience burnout and periods of overwhelm or even depression. This is a problem for the people pleasers, and I’ve seen it over and over again.  Present company included as a recovering people pleaser!

Stephen Covey wrote, “You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage pleasantly, smilingly, and non-apologetically – to say no to other things. And the way to do that is by having a bigger yes burning inside.”

A bigger yes. Your Mission (purpose), Vision (where you are headed), and whether or not an opportunity or request aligns with your Principles.

One of the exercises I have my coaching clients do first thing helps them get intentional about this. I call it the “Front Page” exercise. The beauty of it, it keeps Mission, Vision, and Principles (the word Principles is used interchangeably with values, defined as a rule or belief governing one’s personal behavior) all front and center. Here is the one for Momentors as an example: Our Mission and Values – Momentors Life and Business Coaching Services. I review this almost every day to help make decisions on how to allocate my time, and to charge ahead when there are challenging days which happens to all of us from time to time. It is also publicly accessible on my website so potential clients and the One To Grow On (OTGO) community can see if there is alignment

In Module 3 of our OTGO community, there is an exercise dedicated to thinking through your MVP so you have clarity and a better thought process to evaluate your life decisions.

I believe we need more people in leadership, in the political arena, in sales and operations roles, in client service roles, food and beverage service, landscaping, car sales, finance, in the legal profession – you name it –  we need more people with excellent principles to have a greater influence and impact in this world. To do more good work from a place of good character.

The way we do this is to tie our daily actions to our MVP. We need to overcome anything that is holding us back and move through fears to grow our personal and professional spheres so that more people will benefit from our presence. The more we have good people with good principles experience success, the more light we can shine into some of the darkness out there, and the better off we and our future generations will be.

Moreover, identifying purpose and tying our work to it makes it more likely we will expand that positive influence in a sustainable way.
