All substantial growth comes outside of our comfort zones.
You’ve heard this, right?
For most of us, our nonconscious mind wants to keep us in a state of “normalcy”, where we find comfort in the things we are used to.
My goal is to only find true comfort when I am continually expanding my comfort zone. Doing things that take me outside of it. I remember a time in my professional career when I got really comfortable, had a great handle on things, and my team was crushing it in all categories.
This sounds awesome, but complacency can be dangerous. In any part of our lives – think spouse, other relationships, and kids too. Thankfully I was able to recognize it and shake things up a bit to continue my growth trajectory.
Most recently, I picked up skateboarding again and participated in my first podcast interview. Both of these brought some discomfort for different reasons.
And for that, I am grateful. And will continue doing the things that will help me grow.
How about making this a weekly endeavor? What will you do this week to expand your comfort zone and experience growth?
