The Mirror Test: A Weekly Review Practice for Honest Growth

Challenges rise and fall, and I have made it a habit to check myself each day against the advice I give clients. I call it my mirror rest against my CFOs: Critical Few Objectives. Whether you’re leading a team or building momentum solo, this consistent weekly review practice is how we grow.

Inside My Weekly Review Practice

A few core principles we dive deep on:

📍 Prioritize time with great intention. Every “yes” is a no to something else.

⚡ Take action. Often when you aren’t sure you are ready.

🚀 Be bold and take risks to expand your comfort zone and grow.

💯 Be authentic. Care less about judgment of those who don’t care about you.

💪 Develop resilience. Feel the emotion of pain and loss, reframe “failure” and get up and punch back.

⭐ Believe in your value. You are a person of great value.

🔥 Work hard.

These principles show up consistently in my weekly review practice. I use them to recalibrate and stay true to the advice I give others. I flip this around as a mirror often. And, I look to my wife and mentors along the way to check for my own personal blind spots.

🎯 This Week’s Power-Packed Wins:

✅ Booked two speaking engagements – one live for a local networking group and one virtually for my alma mater

✅ Mentored a young man preparing for his first big job interview (impressed by the questions he came with!)

✅ Interviews with 2 amazing people in the AgeTech space about a start-up we are exploring

✅ Two cohort meetings presenting with some of the most incredibly talented individuals I have ever been in a room with

✅ Learned of some BIG successes from private coaching clients (this is so incredibly rewarding!)

✅ Recorded a lesson via webinar on my concept of STAIRs to take action

I share this because we can all have weeks that look like this – where there is significant growth and impact for our businesses and for others. It takes work in the top section to stack more weeks like this and therefore, more wins.

🎯 Here’s the Key for a Successful Weekly Review Practice:

Some weeks are stronger than others, but throughout this packed week, I stayed focused on my CFOs – Critical Few Objectives. It would be easy for me to get through the week and feel extremely productive. But what about next week?

I know to do the things each day that will not only build momentum but capture it, bottle it, and keep it in play. The roller coaster income effect is all too familiar to me, and too easy to fall into that trap.

💭 Question for you:

What are YOUR CFOs? The things that are the most important leading indicators of success in your world?

If you don’t have a weekly review practice yet, try carving out 20 minutes every Friday to reflect, recalibrate, and set your CFOs. It’s a game-changer.

Of course, you can apply this to all areas in life – let’s talk business for this one.
